Each of these middle years improvement questionnaires is completed by three groups:

It is recommended that the middle years improvement questionnaires are used at the beginning of the year, to establish a benchmark, and then again at the end of the year to measure improvement in target areas.

The middle years questionnaires are ideal to:

  1. inform the development of school level Action Plans to build leadership capacity within a school or across a cluster of schools;
  2. inform school leaders on how to focus on leadership strategies which develop clarity of direction for the school and increase the professional capacity of teachers;
  3. assist school leaders to develop professional capacity by improving feedback on teacher performance and meeting teacher development needs;
  4. provide benchmark data measures that inform the evaluation of progress at individual schools;
  5. provide an evidence base to share effective school, leadership and teacher practice across clusters of schools.

Responses on items in the questionnaires are grouped as scales or item groups for reporting purposes. Benchmark data are also provided.

The middle years school improvement questionnaires have proved critical to supporting student achievement in the middle years of schooling (Years 5 – 9).

Getting Started

To use the Certain Knowledge questionnaire service for middle years improvement initiatives at your school, please email a request detailing the names of the school(s) to be involved in the project and their total enrolments and a short description of the project. After receipt of your request, we will then provide details of the steps to facilitate your school (or schools) to complete the questionnaires online.

Online Reports

Access to the questionnaires is via an online system. The system is set up to produce "matched cohort" reports for staff where a questionnaire is completed more than once. For example, if College A staff complete the leadership questionnaires in March and then again in March of the following year, the system can produce reports comparing responses only where the staff member completed the questionnaire on both occasions. These reports give more accurate comparisons because staff changes do not bias the results. Reports are also provided for all staff that completed each questionnaire.

Certain Knowledge provides the principal or a project coordinator in each school, an online summary report in the following format:

Attitude to School Summary Report

and detailed reports of the mean and standard deviation for questionnaire items and scales, such as:

All reports can be viewed via the Browser, printed and or copied and saved in Microsoft Word/Excel.
